Are You An Amateur Fighter Looking For Sponsorship?

By Cliff Montgomery, ExtremeProSports.com

M M A —

In the real world of boxing (this also applies to kickboxing, Ultimate Fighting, etc.), it's not enough to be blessed with ability -- you must make your talents commercially viable. Not having corporate sponsors makes it rough for promoters to push your fight, because promoters can't shoulder the financial burden alone. This is especially true of the amateur boxer, who practically has to find corporate sponsorship to make his dream come true.

If you're an amateur boxer and would like to find a sponsor, you may use programs like 'BigBoxing', at bigboxing.com to help you get started. Take this from their FAQ:

"We are always looking for fighters who would be perfect matches for our sponsors. It is extremely important that you be of good character and heart for our company to be able to get you a sponsor..."

Boxing gyms and boxing clubs are the best contacts. And believe it or not, you can find boxing sponsorship programs in most populated areas. Since boxing is a fine avenue for promotional opportunities, there are sponsorship programs found throughout America and the world.

What do these programs offer the boxer? Look at the 'Sponsor A Boxer Program' run by the Davenport Boxing Club in Davenport, Iowa:

"Sponsor A Boxer
Three Levels of Sponsorship
Gold - Silver - Bronze

"For over 30 years the Davenport Boxing Club (D.B.C.) has been available to our community. Our gym gives youths a healthy, competitive environment where high levels of discipline, respect and good sportsmanship are the standard. These fundamental principals have produced; over 500 state titles, over 100 regional titles, 25 national titles, 2 world titles and an Olympic Silver Medalist. These accomplishments are made possible by the support from involved citizens and businesses.

"Become a Davenport Boxing Club annual sponsor! Your investment in the D.B.C. is an investment in today's youth and tomorrow's champions. This investment also provides an excellent vehicle to promote and associate your organization with a nationally recognized program. Your contributions will allow a boxer to showcase their skills during amateur boxing tournaments in and throughout the region. Help take care of travel/lodging, food, boxing equipment, warms ups and even shoes. Per boxer these items run approximately $1,164.00 annually.

"The following is a breakdown of expenses that our club incurs to support a boxer: [...]

"Total Travel per Boxer - $969.00
