This event generated a lot of buzz because the main card for the fight features two women and not the conventional “guy vs guy” format. It was also a historical event for female fighters since it was the first time for UFC (arguably the most popular MMA franchise today) to include a women’s fight (and a main event at that).
{Strikeforce} was the first major MMA organization to feature women’s championship but was overshadowed by the UFC, making the female fights go unnoticed and underappreciated. The decision of the UFC to promote and headline Rousey vs Carmouche puts women’s MMA on mainstream media and also increased its popularity to mixed martial arts aficionados. Ronda Rousey won the fight via submission, using a very tight arm bar to make Liz Carmouche quit with only 11 seconds left in the first round.
The fight might not have gone the distance, but it still proved to be an exciting match and was also a great preview of the more female fights to come in the UFC.
Ronda Rousey was an overwhelming favorite to win UFC 157, as almost every internet forum was already calling her the champion. It was very unfortunate for those who betted against Rousey, as she convincingly defeated Liz Carmouche via submission.
You can practice your skills online without worrying of losing too much money. Also, popular poker professionals like Gus Hansen and Pius Heinz have made their fortunes in online sites before competing in major poker events which shows that it is excellent training ground for amateur players. Hopefully, Carmouche’s loss would serve as a lesson for those fight betters. She was named as the underdog for a reason.
The schedule for the next female fight card in the UFC is still undetermined. With the success of UFC 157, it is no surprise that there are more matches to come. Fans are already speculating for mouthwatering Miesha Tate vs Ronda Rousey fight this year, a hint that maybe president Dana White should already pull the trigger for this female match-up.
No.1 contender Miesha Tate was supposed to fight Rousey in UFC 157, but pulled out due to injuries. A possible match between the two will settle the debate on who really is the best female fighter in the planet. With her undefeated record and UFC belt on the line, the pressure is definitely on Rousey.
